Predoctoral Internship Benefits Policies

 

Employment Status:

Interns are temporary employees of the University on terminal appointments for the specified duration of the predoctoral internship. The regular University benefit package, provided to full-time faculty and professional staff, does not apply to temporary employees. All benefits available to interns are specified below.

Salary:

The internship is a full time, 12 month position beginning August 23, 2010. Salary for the internship is $20,000.00.

Health Benefits:

During the period of the internship, student health services are provided through the Sindecuse Health Center and the supplementary Western Michigan University basic student health insurance plan. Only those services described in the basic student health insurance brochure are covered. Health Center access fees and insurance premiums are paid by the University Counseling and Testing Center. Incidental service costs routinely assessed to the student are paid by the intern. The intern may upgrade their insurance coverage by paying an additional cost.

Parking:

Faculty/staff parking privileges are provided for the duration of the internship.

Computer Services:

Interns are provided with an office PC and an account to access the University mainframe. E-mail and internet access will be provided as well as the ability to use other standard applications, databases, services, etc., generally available to the campus community. Support for IT services is also provided.

Library Privileges:

Access to all University libraries will be available to interns during the duration of their training.

Leave Time:

Interns are granted 15 days of leave time during the term of their appointment. They may be used for vacation or sick leave. Any additional leave time will be on a no pay status and must be approved by the Training Director. Planned leave time must be approved in advance by the Training Director. When at all possible, client scheduling arrangements should be made by the intern prior an absence from the office.

Holidays:

Holiday leave is granted for days that the Center is officially closed. University holidays include: Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day (and the Friday following), Christmas Day, New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day. Christmas closing is variable depending on the needs of the University. Any incidental days that the school is officially closed for weather or other emergencies are also included, as well as any extra days granted to the University community by the President.

Professional Development Leave:

Interns can request additional limited leave time for professional conference/training workshops that are relevant to the services provided by the University Counseling and Testing Center. All requests should be made to the Training Director and approved by the Center Director well in advance of the event.
