Andrasi, Ed.D.

Michigan University, Training Director, Licensed Psychologist
- State of Michigan, Associate Professor. Paula's doctorate is
in Counseling Psychology and she did her predoctoral internship
in Clinical Psychology at Pine Rest Christian Hospital in Grand
Rapids, MI. Her clinical interests include dual diagnosis, family
of origin issues with particular emphasis on survivors of sexual
abuse and adult children of alcoholics, spiritual development,
sex therapy, holistic health, training and supervision. She frequently
teaches in the Counseling Psychology Doctoral Training Program
and serves on Student Advisory Boards around campus. Her clinical
orientation is relational/integrative. Paula has worked for hospitals,
state agencies, private clinics, and had her own private practice
before joining the faculty at Western.
Joetta
L. Carr, Ph.D.
Florida State
University, Licensed Psychologist - State of Michigan, Professor. Joetta is a clinical psychologist who counsels students,
conducts research, and creates programs to assist students. She
serves as a member of our Eating Disorders Treatment Team. Joetta
is also very active in the doctoral intern training program, where
she supervises and trains interns in counseling and clinical psychology.
She has developed interest and expertise in treating sexual trauma,
sexual dysfunction, eating disorders, depression and anxiety,
and developmental issues. Her clinical orientation is integrative
coming from a feminist perspective. She has twenty years of experience
in private practice and taught in the Psychology Department at
WMU.
John Coons,
Psy.D.
Antioch
New England Graduate School, Associate Professor, Licensed Psychologist -
State of Michigan, Permanently Certified School Psychologist -State
of New York. John spent 6 years working as a School Psychologist
in Western New York before receiving his generalist training as
a clinical psychologist. His interests include individual psychotherapy,
systems consultation, test construction and statistical research.
His clinical orientation is influenced by social constructionism
and cognitive-behavioral theories. John also provides consultative
services to the University community and Kalamazoo community at
large for test construction and program/outcome research issues.
Kathryn
J. Lewis - Ginebaugh, Psy.D.
Nova Southeastern University, Licensed Psychologist
- State of Michigan, Assistant Director/Assistant Professor.
Kathy is a Clinical Psychologist who worked for over ten years
in the Counseling Center at Eastern Michigan University before
coming to WMU. She completed her degree from Nova Southeastern
University in Florida and finished her pre-doctoral internship
at Ball State University Counseling Center in Muncie, Indiana.
Her interests include individual and group intervention with trauma
survivors, sexual and physical assault, training and supervision,
anxiety disorders, and grief and loss. Her clinical orientation
is dynamic/integrative. Kathy has taught many undergraduate and
graduate level courses, and also has worked in; private practice,
an adolescent drug rehabilitation center, community mental health,
and an inpatient psychiatric unit. Kathy is the Co-Director of the Suicide Prevention Grant.
Jerry
Nowak, M.A.
Western
Michigan University, Nationally Certified Counselor, Nationally
Certified Career Counselor, Master Career Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor State
of Michigan, Associate Professor. Jerry's major responsibilities
include developing career and employment assessment instruments
for schools and industries and career counseling of individuals
of early high school age through adulthood. He is the author of
the Western Michigan University Career Guidance Inventory that
consists of personality, value, interest, and achievement assessments.
He has written three different versions including one that will be accessible on the internet. Jerry consults with human resources management personnel in the
selection of employees using standardized assessment instruments. He is involved in training of graduate students. Jerry provides
workshops and seminars in career counseling and testing. Jerry
has career counseled over twenty thousand students of early high
school age through adult. Prior to being employed at the University
Counseling and Testing Center he worked as a teacher, psychometrician, federal poverty worker,
and rehabilitation counselor. Jerry is also very interested in
Jungian Psychology and Eastern Traditions of Contemplative Therapy having been taught by both Zen and Tibetan Monks including the Dalai Lama.
He co-teaches an Honors College class in Eastern Psychology. Jerry will be retiring the end of Fall Semester 2008.
Richard
Oxhandler, Ed.D.
Western
Michigan University, Professor. Rich is a Nationally Certified
Counselor as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan.
He is particularly interested in transitional and developmental
issues, relationship difficulties, stress reduction, self-esteem
enhancement, and the realization of individual potential. Rich
often teaches classes on Risk Taking and Change, and Community
Building, and consults with the Honor's College. He facilitates
groups on personal development and in meditation. Rich team teaches
a class with Jerry for the Honors College on Eastern Approaches
to Psychology. Each year he takes one of his classes on an "outward
bound" type of experience.
Elaine
Phillips, Ph.D.
Western
Michigan University, Professor, Licensed Psychologist - State
of Michigan; Member, National Register. Elaine's doctorate is
in clinical psychology. She is an APA site visitor and is active
in several divisions of the APA. Her clinical interests include
eating disorders, relationships, grief issues, depression, divorce
adjustment, and women's issues. She is a member of the University's Eating
Disorder Treatment Team. Her clinical orientation is integrative/eclectic.
Prior to joining the University Counseling and Testing Center,
Elaine worked as a psychologist in inpatient psychiatric hospitals,
a community mental health clinic, and the public schools. Dr. Phillips will not be serving as a primary supervisor this year. Click

Glinda Rawls, M.A.
Western Michigan University, Instructor, National Certified Counselor/Licensed Professional Counselor. Glinda holds a master of education degree in college student affairs from Grand Valley State University and earned a second master's degree in college counseling from Western Michigan University. She is currently finishing the requirements for a doctorate in counselor education and supervision from Western Michigan University. She completed the requirements for a specialization in school counseling and is a licensed school counselor in the State of Michigan. Glinda worked in the local public schools as a school counseling intern and has previously worked in various positions in academic and student affairs. She also has worked at two public universities providing career counseling services to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni. Glinda has taught and co-taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in career development and exploration, career counseling, multicultural counseling, and freshman seminar. Her research interests are in the following areas: career, college, and school counseling, student affairs, multicultural issues and supervision. Glinda's theoretical orientation is integrative and interpersonal with an Adlerian base. Glinda is a member of several professional counseling organizations.
Mark St. Martin, Ph.D.
Western Michigan University, Assistant Professor, National Certified Counselor/Licensed Professional Counselor/Limited Licensed Psychologist. Mark completed his master's degree from West Virginia University and his doctorate in counseling psychology at Western Michigan University. He has previously worked in community mental health centers in Morgantown, West Virginia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His interests include working with the Career Guidance Inventory (CGI), career/life decision making and related issues, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, exercise as a preventative measure and treatment option, performance issues, relational difficulties, life adjustments and transitions, as well as supervising and training. Mark's theoretical orientation is integrative with a cognitive-behavioral base.
Delores
Walcott, Psy.D.
Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Licensed
Psychologist - States of Illinois, and Michigan; Member,National Register,
Associate Professor. In addition to being a full-time staff psychologist
in the University Counseling and Testing Center she also has a
collaborative relationship with the University's Division of Multicultural
Affairs. Her current research interests include human sexuality
and the developmentally disabled, juvenile sex offenders, and
cultural diversity. Delores' theoretical orientation is influenced
by cognitive-behavioral and behavioral theories. Dr. Walcott is the Primary Investigator of the Suicide Prevention Grant. Visit

Evelyn
Winfield, Ph.D.
Southern
Illinois University at Carbondale, Licensed Psychologist - State
of Michigan, Director/Associate Professor. Evelyn earned her doctorate
degree in clinical psychology. She completed her predoctoral internship
at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit and a postdoctoral training
program at University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological
Services in Ann Arbor. Evelyn has trained as a generalist in a
variety of settings including community mental health, hospital/medical
center, university clinical and counseling centers, correctional
facility, and nonprofit human services. Her orientation is integrative/eclectic,
and her clinical interests are couples and group therapy, relationship,
family of origin, and transitional/adjustment issues. Evelyn's
research interests include utilization of mental health services,
preventive health and sexual risk taking behaviors, racial/ethnic/cultural
group concerns, career decision-making, and professional/graduate
student training and development.
Cindy Town
Administrative Assistant/Office Coordinator
Cindy has been an employee of Western Michigan
University since November of 1978, and has worked within the Division
of Student Affairs the entire time. She began her employment in
Placement Services (now Career and Student Employment Services),
and after 11 years moved to the University Counseling and Testing
Center. Cindy's current responsibilities to the Center include;
coordinating work assignments and supervising
support staff, informing new employees of their responsibilities
for office and intake procedures, management of the Center's confidential
client record system, budget monitoring and billing, assisting
the department administration (Director, Assistant Director and
Training Director) in any facets of department operations that
may arise, along with assisting department colleagues in daily
operations. When necessary, Cindy can also assist in coordinating
student referrals to the Center.
Renee
Smith
Coordinator
of Testing Services
Renee is currently serving as the go to person for Titanium and other computer problems and concerns. She also oversees the student workers in the department and is the drop off person for copy jobs, typing, and other clerical support that is needed. She serves as back up for the front desk and is supervisor to Mary Escobedo and is available for front line concerns. She also provides back up for Cindy Town in her absence. She does a little bit of everything and can find the answer for most of your questions if she doesn't have it initially. Her duties also include administering national standardized exams on campus including the ACT, GRE, SAT, LSAT, TOEFL, and MCAT. Her job is currently being rewritten and you will be updated with any changes.
Mary Escobedo
Office
Assistant
Mary came to Western Michigan University in 1998, working at Sindecuse Health Center in the Business Office as a medical scheduler. She accepted a position at UCTC in March of 2005. Mary's primary duties include scheduling new appointments for the Center faculty, along with greeting and assisting students and visitors. Mary is involved in PSSO and has participated on their annual spring luncheon and holiday social committees as co-chair of the door prize and entertainment committees. Mary is also on the President's Multi-Cultural Diversity Committee, chairing several sub-committees. She is also a proctor for national standardized exams on campus including ACT, SAT, LSAT, TOEFL and MCAT.
